Flash Fridays: Smile

Sep 30, 2022 | Flash Fridays | 0 comments

It’s Friday! And you know what that means – it’s time for some flash fiction!

This week’s fiction piece is proper ‘micro’ – only 100 words allowed. Not too sure why I wrote what I did – perhaps it’s something to do with the days getting shorter, and the nights getting colder, which means autumn has well and truly arrived. Dark days and even darker nights always put me in a Halloween kinda mood – with this in mind, I hope you enjoy this small slice of horror!

Remember, let me know what you think in the comments!

Smile
100 words

It was quiet now in the house. The only sounds that could be heard were the girl’s even breathing, and the gentle splash of liquid that ran off her knife and onto the floor. After a few moments, she picked her way across the room, the carpet squishy with gore. Every step she took, dark red blood squelched around her bare feet, staining them scarlet.

But still, she never stopped smiling. Not as she paused to wipe her knife on the hem of her dress, and not as she turned to take one last look at the corpse behind her.
